Afternoonified started as a unique tabletop games shop in Katoomba - with a steampunk theme and a warm and friendly atmosphere. The proprietors, Barbara and Don, wanted to create a shop that welcomed its customers with a quirky, interesting decor, and encouraged them to return to explore one of the biggest ranges of board games of any shop in Australia.
Unfortunately, we had to close the physical shop in 2018. Operating a small specialist shop in a regional area is a tricky thing. But the spirit of the shop continues through our online presence.
Barbara and Don have a long history in the games industry. Don published his first game in 2002 and ran board game events in Canberra from 2002 to 2007 which helped to catalyse the remarkable interest in modern games that continues there today. Barbara has been involved in publishing several games while she lived in Italy and contributed some of the illustrations to the game Don published in 2005. Both Barbara and Don have been heavily involved in running events in the Blue Mountains, from the weekly in-shop gaming at Afternoonified to the Ettin Con games convention that continues to be held twice a year in the Blue Mountains and the regular board games events at the public library in Katoomba.
